Critical Role Conversion of Lost Mine of Phandelver

Last updated on September 4, 2023

A little over six months ago, my daughters asked me to run an adventure for them and their friends. The catch … they wanted it set in Exandria and the Critical Role universe. We were already playing a Tal’Dorei based campaign, but it was just the three of us. A couple of their friends expressed interest, but I didn’t want to “screw-up” our home game if their friends weren’t going to stick with it. I was also having a hard time coming up with new plot-lines as it was. Adding four more players was going to stretch me a little thin. An official adventure was the best way to go, but it was going to require some retooling.

Choosing the adventure was an easy one. I knew without even thinking that I’d choose Lost Mine of Phandelver. Short adventure? Check. Low-level characters? Check. Relatively small scope? Check. Perfect for new players? CHECK!

Creating the Guide

At first, my “guide” was just random notes. Terms to substitute on the fly and changes to backstories and lore. As the adventure progressed, my notes and contributions to the backstory became more detailed. When the adventure was done, I collected my thoughts and decided to share them. I was going to make a simple post on r/UnearthedArcana and r/CriticalRole but decided to do it right and use the Homebrewery. I already created the maps I posted earlier, I just need to put it all together. You can also use my Game Master 5 file for LMoP.

The Critical Role Conversion of Lost Mine of Phandelver can be found online at the Homebrewery link and as a PDF here.

Note: This is NOT the whole adventure. You MUST have the Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set and the included Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure to use this conversion. I highly recommend the Critical Role Tal’Dorei Campaign Guide, but it is not required.
