Fight Club 5 Compendium Update (2020-12)

Last updated on September 4, 2023

As this truly terrible year comes to a close, I am happy to announce that this will be the final release of my private compendium.

OK, calm down and put away the pitchfork. Let me tell you why this is a good thing.

A few months back, I approached a number of individuals working on their own compendiums to develop some standard conventions and collaborate more. It didn’t take long to discover we all had something to gain (namely free-time) from working together. So … starting in 2021, I will be putting my compendium up on a shelf and begin helping out with the FightClub5eXML project on GitHub.

Why FightClub5eXML?

While the FightClub5eXML project and I started about the same time and from the same source materials, they have really kicked things into overdrive lately. My process is labor-intensive and slow, theirs is automated and fast. At the same time I’m cracking open a book and typing, they’re pulling data automatically from 5e Tools, formatting it for Fight Club 5, and splitting up the content by source. While you can use one of the pre-built compendiums on GitHub, the real magic will be happening at dnd.kinkofer.com. There you can select the sources you own and create a custom compendium tailored for your campaign. In addition to speed, the FightClub5eXML project also has more content. They have a wide selection of Unearthed Arcana and a few third-party sources too.

What happens to your compendium?

At the moment, nothing. I’m going to continue to maintain my compendium for my current players, but will only be adding new content to be used in my active campaigns. Eventually, I’ll switch to a custom FightClub5eXML compendium, but I still have a bunch of content to add to their repository. Things like the Tal’Dorei campaign guide, the Way of the Cobal Soul update, and more.

As for my compendium, I will be redesigning it soon to focus on my own creations and ports of open content. I will probably start on that endeavor once I’ve cleared my current backlog. You can find the last update here.

What will I be doing?

I have big plans for 2021, but I’m not quite ready to share them. I also have a lot of projects I need to finish up and deliver. The compendium has dominated my time lately and I very much want to get back to making maps, updating my Encounter+ GM screen, and finally finishing my Atlas of Exandria. Keep an eye on the site for more information on new projects and resources.
